With a growing range of Distributors across New Zealand, not only do we believe we offer the best sheds in NZ, we’re building a network of people to help you build them too.

Wide Span Sheds

With many locations nationwide, Wide Span Sheds provide no compromise steel building solutions. They focus on creating steel-framed sheds from high-quality New Zealand cold form structural steel. The company has developed many kinds of sheds in the Industrial, Rural, Equine, and Garages ranges.

As a company with many franchise locations, individual Wide Span Sheds stores operate with a level of independence. This helps the outlets operate specific to the needs of the region but the experience can vary depending on the location. Wide Span Sheds Southland for instance is rated highly on Google with people impressed by both the quality of the shed and the service received.

Totalspan Steel Buildings

Another national company, Totalspan Sheds is one of the best shed manufacturers in NZ with dozens of locations. They are 100% Kiwi-owned and operated with a focus on the environment and needs of New Zealanders.

With over 30 years as a shed manufacturer in New Zealand, they’re responsible for making over 15,000 sheds that have been put up around the country. They only build steel-framed buildings but have designs for sheds, garages, and more in a variety of sizes and specifications.

Duratuf

Formerly known as the Kiwi Garden Shed Company, Duratuf grew from a small factory in Hamilton to a nationwide builder of Timber sheds. The sheds are still built in Hamilton, but are now shipped anywhere in New Zealand.

Duratuf has four primary ranges of sheds, all using wood as the primary material. Full-timber sheds are made entirely of timber, while Semi-timber sheds mix in other materials. They also have a Cedars & Rustics range and Lifestyle sheds. They use wood because they claim it is strong and rigid, eco-friendly, and easy to adapt along with being weatherproof and simple to build.

One interesting feature on the Duratuf website is the virtual shed builder. With this tool, you can set parameters like size, number of colours and windows, colours, flooring and accessories and see a virtual shed put together on your screen. You’ll also receive an estimate for how much this shed will cost (excluding delivery).

Versatile

Primarily a home builder, Versatile has been building homes and sheds for Kiwis since 1976. Starting in Christchurch, the company has expanded and now serves the entirety of New Zealand.

For sheds, the company makes both kitset sheds or builds the shed onsite. These include garages, farm buildings, sleepouts, and carports. Sheds are built from a combination of steel, timber, and cladding depending on the specific model chosen.

Many of the sheds have a 360-degree virtual tour so you can get a feel of what the inside of the shed looks like.  With this preview, you can take control of the mouse and get a close look at the shed to help make the decision on what kind is right for you.

The Garden Shed Company

If you’re in the market for small garden sheds, playhouses, or garden beds, The Garden Shed Company has plenty of options to choose from. They specialise in smaller sheds and structures and have sheds made from wood and/or steel.

They do delivery nationwide and are shed builders in NZ that manufacture the sheds here. Sheds come with a factory warranty of up to 25 years. They also have a companion app that features instructions on videos on how to assemble their small kitset sheds.

The Garden Shed Co have an intricate custom shed builder tool on their website. You can pick the size and shape of your shed, as well as place windows doors, skylights, and more directly on the virtual shed. However, you can’t finish your quote and get a price without completing their contact form and signing up for an account.

KiwiSpan

Claiming that “A KiwiSpan shed is one that will last a lifetime”, the company has teams across NZ. Since 2003, they’ve helped kiwis from Northland to Christchurch get a premium shed for their home or business.

KiwiSpan makes their sheds with New Zealand steel and designs them for the different environments of the country. While they don’t have an additional warranty on the sheds, they use Colorsteel® which has various warranties depending on the specific material used.

On the website, they have a 3D Builder you can use to get an idea of the shed. The builder isn’t limited to shed dimensions however, meaning you can end up creating a shed in a size that can’t actually be built. However, if you know this ahead of time you can customise the walls, doors, windows, and even the colours and use that information to send an enquiry based on your model and they’ll get back to you with a quote.

Trade Tested

Claiming that they’re “here to make your backyard great”, Trade Tested manufactures smaller sheds for storage and extra living spaces. Starting in 2010, their goal is to deliver the best deals on everything Kiwis need for their backyards, from tools to automotive to gardening.

For sheds, these are primarily garden sheds and carports. They also build log cabins made from Nordic Spruce to add an extra lounge space or living area to the backyard. Garden sheds can be steel, wooden, or resin. Other sheds like arch buildings are made from wood or steel.

The Trade Tested store and showroom is located in Papatoetoe in Auckland, but they deliver products nationwide. Kitset sheds can be ordered alone or with other products in a combined shipment.

Fair Dinkum Sheds

A popular manufacturer of sheds for the last couple of decades, Fair Dinkum Sheds use Colorsteel® and ZINCALUME steel for their sheds. Their sheds are available in most regions of NZ.

Fair Dinkum Sheds are the exclusive partners of Menzshed New Zealand, a charity that brings men together in a shed to chat, have a laugh, and work on practical products and hobbies using a wide range of tools.

The company has a dedicated app available on Apple, Android, and PC. With the app, you can design your own shed in 3D. This lets you have extensive customisation and see the styles, features, and dimensions of your shed. From there, you can use your design to get a quote for your shed and have them create it for you.

Barry Sheds

Emphasising cabins and other sleepouts, Barry Sheds designs, manufactures and delivers sheds in Auckland and beyond. Their goal is to provide more versatility and durability for your living situation by adding extra living spaces or speciality areas.

Shed designs are cozy and affordable and are made from wood with aluminium. The sheds also have windows and more can be added with options for double glazing. The shed designs stick to within 10 sqm in total size, making them easy to deliver and set up and well under building consent requirements.

While they work primarily in Auckland, Barry Sheds can also deliver nationwide. However, their personal delivery and construction is only valid inside the Auckland region so other arrangements will need to be made.

Alpine Buildings

With over 25 years of experience, Alpine buildings is a family-owned and NZ-operated shed business. The company takes pride in building birdproof sheds that keep birds away from the rafters and your equipment.

Alpine Buildings manufacture kitset sheds in NZ from a combination of steel and timber. The kitset sheds may be made from timber or steel-framed. They are designed for the specific site conditions and factor in elements like snow loads and wind zones. The sheds include free delivery directly to the site to anywhere in the country.

One feature they have is a free online tool to help you build your dream shed. This tool works like an advanced form where you make your selections and then the tool shows examples of what the shed could look like.

FORT BUILDING

Using New Zealand steel in their designs, FORT BUILDING makes steel frame sheds using a box beam structure. The award-winning shed builders focus on the lower and central North Island including Waikato and the BOP and Auckland regions.

FORT BUILDING aims to help you every step of the way, from planning to building. They have separate teams for Planning, Project Management, and Building the sheds that coordinate to help make your shed process go as smoothly as possible.

As one of the few companies that does both manufacturing of sheds and can help you build them, the company is a good choice if you aren’t confident building your own kitset shed. The website has several constructed sheds in their inspiration gallery to help you see what the finished products will look like.

What about building my shed?

While there are a limited number of shed manufacturers in New Zealand, there are plenty of companies that can help construct your kitset shed. If you are an experienced builder or confident with your practical skills, you can build many kitset sheds yourself. But if you have a larger or more complicated product, a builder or team of builders can help with construction.

If you don’t know of a team that can help, check out our team of distributors or contact us to find out more
